Missouri residents may be interested in Miller child custody case

Child custody cases can at times be messy and complicated. While not every case is a high profile case, when a celebrity is involved, the details are typically shared through various media outlets. Missouri residents may have read about the child custody case involving the Olympic skier Bode Miller.

Miller originally had custody of the young boy, who is now 9 months old. The boy is a product of a short affair Miller had with a former Marine. According to the woman, Miller wanted her to have an abortion. After a recent hearing, Miller was forced to hand over his son to the baby's mother. Miller has stated he wants his son to be able to go to the Olympics with him because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

As this case continues, it could get even more complicated. The mother is currently attending an Ivy League school using her GI Bill provided by the military while Miller is traveling the world with his wife who is a volleyball champion. Although the case was initially heard in one state, it was determined it needs to be transferred to the state where the boy was born. Hopefully for all parties involved, the case can be settled during the next court date.

While not all child custody cases are this complicated, this is certainly an example of two parties that can not come to an agreement. Any Missouri parent that is facing a similar situation may want to start by understanding the applicable state laws and determining the best course of action. Since each case is different, knowing what is appropriate for one's situation can help the person have realistic expectations for obtaining a beneficial outcome.
