Seeking a less stressful divorce and child custody arrangement

Divorce tends to bring out long-buried issues, even between the most amicable and cooperative of couples. While there is no such thing as a perfect divorce, Missouri couples can strive to have less stress and complications during the process. There are several specific steps that can be taken to minimize confrontation and unnecessary conflict in child custody discussions.

One thing that can be useful is to maintain communication with the separated partner through email. Speaking face-to-face can allow tension and emotions to rise to the surface, making it hard to effectively discuss certain issues. It can be less stressful to communicate only electronically or through individual legal counsel.

Children are always effected by a divorce, no matter how hard their parents may try to ease the impact on their lives. Children may need therapy and other outside help to properly process what is happening as well as regular contact with both parents. Mediation and other alternate methods of dispute resolution can be a useful way to navigate custody and support discussions. Whether they get along or not, parents are still a team when it comes to raising their children.

A co-parenting situation may not be ideal, but it is always beneficial when children can remain close with both parents post-divorce. To resolve disputes and come to an agreement that both protects parental rights and the best interests of the children, it can be useful to seek the assistance of a lawyer experienced in complex child custody cases. Missouri parents always have the right to know their legal options regarding their preferred custody arrangement.
